Could someone get rabies from this?

ok, so the other day my parents found that my dog had killed a bat and brought it to the porch. my dad put on latex gloves, got a sandwich bag and picked up the dead bat like someone would pick up dog feces. then, he got a ziplock bag and put the sandwich bag in it along with his gloves. then, he got a larger ziplock bag and put it in there. then he put the bag in his car trunk and took it to the humane society for testing. he said the test results came back and they said they could not tell if it had rabies because it was too decomposed. the bat was tested within the same 48 hours it was found dead. could my dad have gotten rabies from what he did?
